North honored for Advanced Placement scores

Columbus North High School has been recognized as a recipient of the 2017 Advanced Placement award from the Indiana Department of Education.

The school was recognized after 31 percent of its graduating class received a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam. To be selected, schools must have at least 25 percent of their 2017 graduating class receive those scores on an exam.

It’s the fourth year in a row for North has achieved this distinction, Principal David Clark said. “They want to push themselves and do better,” Clark said. “It’s very heartening to me.”

Advanced Placement courses and exams help students get prepared for life and helps them improve skills such as being able to work collaboratively and communicate clearly,

Clark said.

“They’re learning how to learn other things that make a difference,” Clark said.

An award ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon at the Indiana Statehouse recognizing schools across the state.
