Woman asleep in drive thru arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated

A local woman who was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at a Columbus restaurant drive thru was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Columbus police were sent to a drive thru at a restaurant in the 1600 block of North National Road at 4:50 a.m. Saturday about a customer, later identified as Joanna M. Purtlebaugh, 30, Columbus, who was asleep in the driver’s seat, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers work her up and administered several field sobriety tests, Harris said. When a breath sample was taken, she tested at .153 percent, nearly twice the legal limit, Harris said.

Purtlebaugh was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood test and was later taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.
