
COLUMBUS
Bertha Marie Arnholt, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family.
Bertha was born April 7, 1925, in Priddy, Texas, the daughter of Wilhelm and Freida Lippe Koch.
She married Walter Arnholt March 30, 1946, who preceded her in death March 15, 2001.
Bertha was born in Priddy, Texas to first and second generation German immigrants.
In 1946, she married Walter Arnholt, with whom she had corresponded during World War II, and came with him to Columbusa.
Farm wife, mother of six, and 4-H leader, Bertha sold produce, fryers, egg noodles and handmade crafts.
She served for several years as head baker at Northside Junior High.
At. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she served faithfully in the Ladies Aid Society.
She also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Her sewing skills created costumes for the Christmas Eve children’s program.
Her family gives thanks for her quiet, profound faith and always present love and care.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clifty with Pastor Doug Bauman officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s Clifty Bereavement Fund or in honor of Pastors Doug Bauman and William Stache to Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne; Student Aid Fund, 6600 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Teresa) Arnholt and Raymond (Mary) Arnholt, both of Columbus, daughters, Betty (Fred) Kreuger of Fairfield, Iowa, Linda (Dean) Wenthe of Fort Wayne and Esther (Tyrone) Stoner of Barium Springs, North Carolina; a son-in-law, Randy Shumaker of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; a daughter, Wanda Shumaker; brothers, Wilber, Marvin and Arnold Koch, and a sister, Louise Johnson.
