Funeral services for Brendon Sperry will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St. in Columbus, and noon Friday at the Crawford Consolidated United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, Indiana.
Calling on Thursday is from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the Columbus funeral home, and 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the church.
The boy’s grandfather, Jim Humphrey, said the family wished to thank all the area first responders and community members who helped in the search for Brendon. He said the family hoped they might attend the funeral so the family could express their thanks in person.
As of mid-day Monday, a gofundme fundraising effort to help with funeral expenses for the Columbus 6-year-old who died in an accidental drowning had exceeded $6,843.
The boy drowned Thursday after being swept into the current where the East Fork White and Flat Rock rivers come together at a river overlook on the northwest side of Mill Race Park. His body was recovered Saturday about a half mile south of the Robert Stewart Bridge by searchers from the Bartholomew County Water Rescue Team and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
