North Vernon man arrested after overdosing

A 33-year-old Jennings County man was arrested June 12 just hours after police used Naloxone to revive him after he overdosed, police report.

Jonathan L. Noel of North Vernon was booked into the Jennings County Jail at 6:11 p.m. that day on a Level 3 felony of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony of possession of a syringe, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.

The incident that led to Noel’s arrest began at about 1:30 p.m. when North Vernon police responded to a report of a possible overdose in the parking lot of a store in the 1100 block of North State Street.

Officers reported finding a male, later identified as Noel, slumped over in a vehicle, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, spokesman for the North Vernon Police Department.

Richmond said officers immediately began giving first aide which included administering Naloxone until paramedics arrived and took over his treatment. Naloxone is an overdose-reversal drug administered to people who have overdosed.

While officers were giving Noel first aid, they reported seeing drug paraphernalia in plain view and searched the vehicle, Richmond said.

Sgt. Craig Kipper reported officers found three syringes — with one filled with a clear liquid — a small amount of marijuana, a digital scale and more than 5 grams of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

Noel was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for treatment and was arrested upon his release the same evening.
