Traffic stop leads to the arrest of two local men

Columbus police arrested two local men on drug-related charges after they were stopped for a minor traffic violation this morning.

Officer Drake Maddix saw the violation near Hege and Vermont avenues at 1:45 a.m. today, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

He identified the two as James B. Wise, 39, Columbus and Joshua D. Bean, 40, Columbus, Harris said.

When speaking with the two, Maddix saw a corner cut bag fall from Bean’s hand, Harris said. The officer also saw that Wise appeared to have narcotics inside his open wallet which was visible during the interaction, Harris said. Officers also located a digital scale containing white powder while searching the vehicle, Harris said.

As the two men were arrested, officers confirmed Wise had two Bartholomew County warrants pending for his arrest, Harris said.

Wise was also arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said. Bean was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, he said.
