Services and studies

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led on Sunday by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will meet at 5 p.m., followed by Bible study at 6 p.m.

A Christian Journey with Paul will not be meeting during the summer months.

On Wednesday evening, The Prayer Team will meet at 6 p.m. in The Prayer Room and adult Bible study will meet at 6:30 p.m. in The Friendship Center.

First Baptist — The Rev. Jon Carlstrom will speak at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. Child care will be available on the lower level for infants. The service will be streamed live at Sundaystreams.com/go/fbccolumbus and fbccolumbus.org/WP/sermons.

East Columbus United Methodist — Fellowship will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in the church foyer, 2439 Indiana Ave., with beverages and light snacks. Pastor Charles Aigner will bring the message and holy communion will be served at 9:30 a.m. Young children will receive a special message before being dismissed to attend Children’s Church. A staffed nursery/toddler room will be available during the morning service. The evening chapel service will begin at 6 p.m.

Bible study will continue with the study of the Gospel of John at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel.

Vacation Bible school for children from kindergarten through grade 6 will be held from 5:15 to 8 p.m. July 17-19, with dinner to be served at 5:15 p.m. Register by calling the church office or by visiting eastcolumbusumc.org.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. The children’s program through grade 6 will meet at the same time as the service.

The women’s seven-week Bible study, “My Heart, Christ’s Home” by Robert Boyd Munger, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday and be led by Nita Evans.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh, will be led by Pastor Kirby Rupp and feature the message, “If I Just Touch His Clothes.” Scripture will include 2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; and Mark 5:21-43. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study is on hiatus for the summer.

First Presbyterian — The Rev. Sharon Williams will return to the pulpit at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to deliver a message, “Love and Longing.” Scripture will include 2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27; and Mark 5:21-43. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m. The church is located at 512 Seventh St.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. A support group for working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

St. Paul Lutheran — “God’s Great Faithfulness,” based on Lamentations 3:22-33, will be Pastor Douglas Bauman’s sermon at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St. Both services will include prayers for the country and its leaders, and will recognize living and deceased members who have served in the nation’s armed forces.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — Bud Herron, a congregant since 2008, will launch the summer series of Spiritual Journeys at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd., with a narrative, “Theological Creeks I’ve Been Up.” Herron will describe his travels from Christian fundamentalist to Christian secularist to Christian liberal to Unitarian Universalist agnostic.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will use the theme, “Telling Others What Jesus is Doing in Your Life,” when she gives her sermon at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Liturgist Karen Mize will share Scripture from Mark 1:35-38 and Matthew 4:23-25. The choir will provide special music directed by Kathy Bush and accompanied by Chris Kimerling. Teresa Covert will give the children’s message. A time of fellowship will follow the service. The United Methodist Men’s group will meet at 7:15 a.m.

The Monday night Bible studies, the Tuesday night Sit ‘N’ Stitch group and the Wednesday night choir practice will be on hiatus until September. Thursday morning prayer time will meet at 10 a.m. with Barb Hedrick as leader.

Holy communion will be served during the 9 a.m. worship service July 8. Attendees will be invited to commit to discipleship and sign a spiritual pledge card.

Grace Lutheran — Worship will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 3201 Central Ave. The message, “Two Daughters of God: Jesus Heals a Woman and Raises a Little Girl,” will be based on Scripture from Mark 5:21-43. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:20 a.m.

The Searching Scripture class will not meet on Tuesday due to the upcoming holiday. The class will resume from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 10 with a study of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Child care will be available. For more details, call 812-799-7274.

Events

Flintwood Wesleyan — The next Flintwood Outdoor Market will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 7 at the church, 5300 25th St., and feature local vendors and artisans and home-baked goods. Space may be rented by contacting Kim Rutan in the church office.

Family Camp will take place from July 15-22 at the Orleans District Campground, 1637 S. Maple St., Orleans. Camp evangelists will include the Revs. George Holley and Tony Bye. Worship leaders will be Chuck and Debbie Brown. The Rev. Amber Livermore will be the featured youth speaker. A closing night concert will feature Judith Montgomery and family, along with The Woodsman Quartet. A free-will offering will be taken.
