Columbus has rejected bids for drainage repairs from six different companies.
The Columbus Board of Works rejected the bids Tuesday after five of them came in significantly higher than the city’s estimated cost of $75,000, and a sixth bid was missing required items, said Aimee Morris, city engineering technician.
The following bids were received:
Excavating Plus Inc., $61,820
Best Excavating Inc., $109,150
CASE Construction Inc., $129,980
King’s Trucking & Excavation Inc., $95,879
Milestone Contractors, $150,650
Tovey-Perry Co., $123,066.38
The work involves replacing or adding pipes to help deal with storm water, said Andrew Beckort, assistant city engineer. The improvements may also fix sink holes that have formed in one homeowner’s yard, he said.
The following locations are set to receive drainage improvements:
12th Street and Ruddick Avenue
16th and Maple streets
County Road 200 South and Terrace Lake Road
3325 Richland Drive
3422 Paddington Drive
3829 Waycross Drive
Navajo Court
Ridgeview Lane
The locations targeted for improvements were identified after the city engineering office received phone calls from residents, Beckort said. Funding for the project is coming out of the city’s storm sewer budget.
The city awarded a contract in December to Seymour-based Lawyer Excavation for about $12,610 to perform drainage repairs on Bridle Way Boulevard, Wildwood Lane, Beech Drive, Waterside Drive, East Meadow Ridge Road and Champion Drive.
Beckort said the city will give contractors another opportunity to submit bids, which the city expects to open next week. A contract will likely be awarded during the July 17 Columbus Board of Works meeting, he said.
