North graduate ties for 39th in Indiana Open

Michael VanDeventer carded a final-round 2-over-par 74 Wednesday to finish in a tie for 39th in the Indiana Open Championship.

VanDeventer, a Columbus North and Ball State graduate, who was playing in his first tournament as a professional golfer, shot 72 and 75 in the first two-rounds at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel and finished at 5-over 221.

Bryce Turner, a North grad who will be a sophomore at St. Francis, had a 73 Wednesday and finished in a tie for 41st at 222. He shot 75 and 74 the first two days.

VanDeventer and Turner were the only two of the six local golfers to make the cut following Tuesday’s second round.

Michael Sharp of Kendallville won with a 7-under 209. CJ Jones of Muncie, Christopher Smith of Peru and Andy Winings of Fishers all were one shot back at 6-under 210.

Former Bull Dog tied for 67th after three rounds

Danbi Kim fired a 1-under 71 on Tuesday, but had a 6-over 78 Wednesday to put herself in a tie for 67th going into today’s final round of the Girls Junior PGA Championship.

Kim, a recent North graduate who is headed to Findlay (Ohio), shot 73 in Monday’s first round and is at 6-over 222 through three rounds at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Kentucky.

Yealimi Noh of Concord, California, leads the tournament at 21-under 195.
