Tipton Lakes duplex developer receives initial rezoning approval

A developer hoping to build duplexes in Tipton Lakes for those age 55 and older received preliminary rezoning approval for the project over the objections of nearby property owners.
The Columbus Plan Commission voted 6-3 Tuesday to approve a request from Spring Hill Lake Development to rezone 26.79 acres on Columbus’ west side for 20 duplexes to be built in an area near single-family homes.

The proposed project known as the Village of Tipton Lakes would be located on the west side of Tipton Lakes Boulevard, north of Goeller Road. The duplexes would be priced at $400,000 to $450,000, said Jeffrey Bush, who has developed land in Tipton Lakes for more than 25 years.

More than 40 people were at the meeting to hear plans about the proposed development with about six residents speaking against it.
