Nine Club Olympia swimmers participated in a 10-day training and competition trip to Southern California last month.
The Club Olympians trained with the Mission Viejo Nadadores, swimmers from the Chinese national team and elite swimmers from Canada and the United States. They competed in the California Open Water Junior Olympics and the Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions.
The Fran Crippen meet featured more than 1,000 swimmers from around the world, including members of the U.S., Canadian, Chinese and Russian national teams. Rachel Sabotin led Club Olympia by finishing 16th in the women’s open 1,500 freestyle, 22nd in the 400 individual medley and 25th in the 200 butterfly and 800 freestyle.
Brady Beyer and Nalanie Cortez were the top swimmers under 14 years old who qualified to compete in the meet. Sabotin and Cortez teamed with Maggie Johnson and Erica Samuel to finish 15th in the women’s 400 freeestyel relay.
Cortez, Johnson, Samuel and Hannah Manlief took 17th in the 400 fedley relay. Beyer teamed with Pratt Badve, Misha Machavariana and Ayush Panda to finish 17th in the men’s 400 freestyle relay and 19th in the men’s 400 medley relay.
