COLUMBUS

A. Dean Taylor, 96, of Columbus, passed from this life at 4:12 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mr. Taylor was born September 27, 1921, in Bemidji, Minnesota, the son of Luke Lansing and Margaret Susan Swank Taylor. He married Martha E. Williams October 15, 1949; she preceded him in death April 12, 2012.

Mr. Taylor entered active duty with the U.S. Army Air Corps July 12, 1943 during World War II. He rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged March 28, 1946.

Mr. Taylor attended Purdue University and graduated with honors from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering.

He was a member of Gargoyle, an architectural honorary fraternity and the TAU Chapter of Delta Phi.

Mr. Taylor was a practicing architect in Columbus for more than four decades, was the owner of A. Dean Architect, was a member of the AIA, and he founded, with his father and brother, Taylor Bros. Construction.

He was the founder and co-owner of Tannehill Park, Inc.

Mr. Taylor was a life member of the Bartholomew County Historical Society, where he was a past-president and a former member of the board.

He was a founding and active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where he held various offices and served his church as needed. He was a life member of The Alden Kindred of America and was a former leader of Boy Scouts and Senior Scouts.

Mr. Taylor was a former member of Columbus Junior Chamber of Commerce, Preserve to Enjoy, and the Columbus Rotary Club, where was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award and he had also served on the Visitors Center Board.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his children, Amy Z. (Jerry) Sharp of Columbus and Reed L. Taylor of Columbus; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Brad) Stoppenhagen of Wyoming, Ohio, Staci (Greg) Lombardo of Haslett, Michigan, Jonathan (Christina) Sharp of Columbus, Sarah (Matt) Guise of Brownsburg, and Jessica Taylor of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Emma and Luke Guise, Hannah and Andrew Stoppenhagen, and Jarett and Shelby Sharp; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death his parents; his wife, Martha; a brother, Virgil Taylor; a sister,

Bea Zaharako; and an infant grandson.

The funeral service will be at held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Blystone officiating.

Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Taylor will be laid to rest next to his wife, Martha, at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Bartholomew County Historical Society.
