Twenty young people spent much of a day last week fishing with a Columbus police officer.
“Get Hooked on Fishing,” held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, drew 20 students between the ages of 11 and 15.
The program gives young people the opportunity to drop a line with and get to know a Columbus Police Department officer, said Lt. Matt Harris, department spokesman.
It was created to give Columbus police officers to opportunity to build positive relationships with local youth in a casual setting, Harris said. Some of the students had never fished before.
The event was hosted and supported by Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89, which has a pond on County Road 450 South in Columbus. It was offered free to participants.
