Arthur William Zinkel, 88, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away on August 6, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
He was born February 20, 1930, in Chicago, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Gren Zinkel.
On February 20, 1952, he married Florence Boersma.
Arthur served as a cartographer in the U.S. Army.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for 42 years at R.R. Donnelly and Sons in Chicago. While employed there, Art worked as a printer and foreman-eventually retiring in 1990.
Art and Flo enjoyed traveling around the world.
Art was an aviation enthusiast. He enjoyed piloting his Cessna airplane along with building and flying his hand-crafted quarter scale radio-controlled airplanes. Art also enjoyed model boat building and wood carving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Elizabeth “Elsie” (Gren) Zinkel; daughter, Janet Kellam and son, Arthur James Zinkel.
Mr. Zinkel is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence (Boersma) Zinkel; daughter, Barbara (Joseph) Gahimer of Columbus, son, James (Dianne) Zinkel of Frankfort, Illinois.; grandchildren, Joanne (Brad) King of California, Ryan Gahimer of Columbus, Julie (Greg) Parker of Ft. Myers, Florida, Hanna Zinkel of Frankfort, Illinois., Dylan Gahimer of Columbus, Isabelle Zinkel also of Frankfort, Illinois; brother, Robert (Nellie) Zinkel of Homewood, Illinois; nephew, Robert (Cathy) Zinkel, and nieces, Sandra and Nancy Zinkel.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Skyline Memorial Park. In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation is planned.
Inurnment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, Illinois.
