Bull Dogs take second

HENRYVILLE — Seventh-ranked Columbus North finished second in Saturday’s Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational at Champions Pointe.

No. 2 Evansville North won with a 278 to 305 for the Bull Dogs. Franklin finished third with a 313, and Center Grove was fourth with a 320.

Columbus North’s Alex Munnicha tied for second individually with a 1-over-par 71, while Nathaly Munnicha finished eighth with a 75. Annie Anderson added a 79, Ella Wilks shot 80 and Yestika Nischol had an 81.

Playing as individuals, Macy Euler carded a 90, and Gwen Anderson had a 95.

Olympians shoot 419

ANDERSON — Columbus East finished with a 419 team total in the Lapel Regional at Edgewood Golf Club, site of the regional.

Lauren Steinwedel led the Olympians with a 101. Kati Brunn carded a 103, Harley Gant added a 107, Ellie Buntin shot 108 and Peyton Meier had a 114.

North drops opener

INDIANAPOLIS — Southport scored a goal in each half to hand Columbus North a 2-0 Conference Indiana loss to open the season.

The Cardinals outshot the Bull Dogs 20-6 and put 11 shots on goal to none for North. Noah Kestler recorded three first-half saves, and Colvin Iorio posted six second-half saves.

Eagles open season

TERRE HAUTE — Brown County competed in the Valley Cross Kickoff at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, site of the state finals. No team scores were kept.

Marino Dolph led the Eagle boys with a seventh-place finish in 17 minutes, 14.3 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Jackson McPheeters took 11th in 17:33.2, while Cameron Fox was 139th (20:09.9) and Jason Straton 199th (21:35.6).

Eme Koester finished 13th in 21:30.3 to lead the girls. Anna Fleetwood took 26th in 22:13.5, and Maris Wyman was 64th in 24:30.3.
