Police arrest two on drug-related charges

Columbus police arrested two people on drug-related charges after a traffic stop near Terrace Lake Road and County Road 200S.

Officer Travis Harbaugh stopped a speeding vehicle there at 12:15 a.m. Sunday and spoke with the driver, Rikki G. Herrera, 25, of 2316 N. Cherry St., said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Harbaugh noted a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, Harris said. When Herrera and a passenger, Mauricio Colin, 20, Indianapolis, exited the vehicle, police noticed a handgun inside the car where Colin had been seated.

Colin told officers he owned the firearm and did not have a handgun permit, Harris said. Colin was arrested and officers later located marijuana in his pants pockets, Harris said.

Officers also arrested Herrera after marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Herrera was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to arrest reports. She was released from the Bartholomew County Jail without having to post $6,000 bond through the county’s pre-trial diversion program.

Colin was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun without a license and possession of marijuana. Colin was also released without having to post a $8,500 bond set for him at the jail, jail records show.
