Bull Dogs blank Quakers

Eighteenth-ranked Columbus North tuned up for today’s match at Columbus East with a 5-0 win against Plainfield on Monday.

Kevin Lin beat Brady Sims 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Bhavey Jain downed Cameron Chafin 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Joey Zhao topped Cade East 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs, who were playing their first dual match of the season.

North’s Adam Saad and Nathan Lin beat Ryan Lechner and Alex Kessinger 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Matthew Liu and Atharva Kute downed Avery Bennett and Truman Purtell 6-4, 4-6, (10-3) at No. 2 doubles.

Cougars edge Saints

INDIANAPOLIS — Trinity Lutheran won a pair of third-set supertiebreakers to pull out a 3-2 victory at Indianapolis Lutheran.

Noah Voelker won 6-7 (6), 6-2, (10-3) at No. 3 singles for the Cougars. Cameron Gruenwald and Hunter Morgan prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Caleb Gruenwald and Jan Lichte triumphed 6-1, 3-6, (12-10) at No. 2 doubles.

Trinity’s Jace Crockett fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Pierce McCammon lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

GIRLS GOLF

Olympians take third

Columbus East finished third in a tri match at Otter Creek. Martinsville won with a 167, to 177 for Franklin and 216 for the Olympians.

Ellie Buntin led East with a 49. Peyton Meier cared a 53, Lauren Steniwedel added a 56, Cristen Martinez shot 58 and Kati Brunn had a 61.

Panthers pick up win

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County posted a 183-210 win against New Albany at St. Annes.

Peyton Whitehead led the Panthers with a 43. Sydney Campbell carded a 45, Annie Ertel added a 47, Ellie Hearne shot 48 and Destiny Joray had a 53.

Lancers fall to Braves

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh fell to Indian Creek 205-236 at Timbergate.

Morgan Calhoun led the Lancers with a 50. Brooke Link carded a 61, Emma Wade added a 62, Maddie McGaha had a 63 and Bethany Burton and Haven Link each shot 66.

Crusaders win in four

MADISON — Columbus Christian overcame a second-set setback to roll in the final two to claim a 25-13, 19-25, 25-13, 25-15 win at Christian Academy of Madison.

Madison Henderson recorded nine kills and 14 digs, and Hannah Stair had 28 assists and five aces to lead the Crusaders (4-0). Mayah Schundelmier added six kills, six digs and eight aces.

Also for Columbus Christian, Lauren Hunnicutt tallied four kills and five digs. Michaela Schundelmier pounded four kills, and Kayla Jones notched eight digs.

Olympians take first loss

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East and Bloomington South were scoreless the first 60 minutes, but the Panthers scored three times in the final 20 minutes to claim a 3-0 victory.

Karisma Parker recorded nine saves for the Olympians (2-1).

Trinity tops Herron

SEYMOUR — Sidney Hoene netted two goals and an assist to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 4-0 win against Indianapolis Herron.

Maddie Bell and Mary Matthews scored the other goals for the Cougars (2-1). Trinity outshot the Achaeans 28-5.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Panthers claim second

BEDFORD — Bloomington North edged the Jennings County boys 32-34 to win the Bedford North Lawrence Invitational title.

Alex Hendrix led the Panthers with a third-place finish in 17 minutes, 13 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Carter Leak took fourth in 17:28, while Lane Elsner was seventh (17:44), AJ Siener 10th (18:25) and Drew Stroud 13th (18:46).

Eagles finish third

SHELBYVILLE — Brown County’s boys finished third in a tri meet at Shelbyville. Greensburg won with 37 points, while Shelbville and the Eagles each scored 47, and Brown County did not have a sixth runner.

Marino Dolph won the boys race in 17:30 to lead the Eagles. Jackson McPheeters finished fourth in 18:44, while Cameron Fox was ninth (19:13), Jason Stratton 17th (23:01) and Rhett Silbaugh 20th (24:10).

Brown County did not have enough girls runners to score as a team. Eme Koester finished second in 21:12, while Anna Fleetwood was third (21:43) and Maris Wyman 10th (24:22).

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Lutheran scored three goals in the first half and went on to hand Trinity Lutheran a 7-0 defeat.

The Cougars fell to 0-3.
