As long as health allowed, Evanell faithfully attended Medora Wesleyan Church in Medora. An avid prayer warrior for her friends and family, Evanell loved God dearly and spent much time in His presence reading her Bible. She worked hard to ensure that her family and home were always well tended. She always sought to put others before herself and truly had a servant’s heart. She enjoyed the challenge of a crossword puzzle and cheering for her basketball team, the Hoosiers.
On November 29, 1941, she married Melvin Johnson who lovingly referred to her as “Ms. Blue” throughout their lives together. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2003. They loved each other beautifully and even after his death, she enjoyed telling stories about their life together.
She is survived by her three children, Vera K. (Dennis) Light, James M. (Sharon) Johnson and Vivian E. (Patrick) White; 9 grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Light, Suzie Light, Angie (P.J.) Towle, Jimmy (Carrie) Johnson, Jennifer (Tyler) Williams, Ronnie (Aurora) Abner, James (Kylee) White, Benji (Rachel) White and Jered (Sara) Abner; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one great-grandchild, and 11 siblings.
Memorials may be written to Gideon International or Hospice of Schneck Medical Center.
