Hauser students, staff mourn death of classmate

HOPE — Hauser High School and its student body are in mourning after learning of the death of a member of the senior class.

Flat Rock-Hawcreek Superintendent Shawn Price said Trevor Frazee, 18, who attended the alternative school at Hauser High School, died Thursday of cardiac arrest associated with a recent illness. Frazee was not at school when the incident occurred, Price said.

“I know Trevor and this is very tragic,” Price said, shortly after learning of the teen’s death. “Our hearts go out to his family.”

Hope Town Marshal Matt Tallent said first responders were sent to Frazee’s home in Hope at 11:55 a.m. Thursday on a call of difficulty breathing. Tallent said the teen was conscious and talking when first responders arrived, but shortly after went into cardiac arrest while being treated by paramedics.

Frazee’s grandfather was with him when the incident was reported and the boy’s father was called from work, Tallent said.

All Hauser High School events Thursday night were canceled in respect to the family, and the family has requested privacy at this time, Price said.

School administrators went through the school, class by class, to notify students in person of Frazee’s death at about 2 p.m. Thursday before dismissal from school, Price said.

Additional staff members and counselors will be available today to assist Hauser students, Price said.
