Columbus North’s junior varsity football team opened its season last weekend with a 21-6 win at Franklin.
Royce Lofton returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter. Giovanni Alejandro ran 6 yards for a score in the second quarter.
Carter Ward went 3 for 3 on extra points for the Bull Dogs.
East JV drops opener
Columbus East’s JV fell to Whiteland 34-22 in its season opener.
Charles Claycamp caught a 20-yard touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass from Malachi Parks. Sean Ryan returned a kickoff 50 yards for a score and Parks scored on an 18-yard run and 2-point conversion run.
Kai Stidham recovered a fumble for the Olympians.
Jennings 7th prevails
The Jennings County seventh-graders won their first game of the season Thursday, a 6-0 decision against Batesville.
Payton Bragg scored the touchdown for the Panthers (1-1).
BOYS TENNIS
Spartans open with win
Northside Middle School began its season Wednesday with a 3-2 win against Center Grove Central.
Ronit Jha won a singles match for the Spartans. Matt Degner and Jaehon Shim won a doubles match, as did Sid Jain and Param Patel.
The Spartan JV won 5-0. Ben Benter and Darren Li won singles matches, while doubles winners were Leo Guo and Luke Sequeira, Nicholaus Bergman and Sid Kamble and Zach Kiser and Ajay Singireddy.
Spartan boys take invite
The Northside boys won the 17-team Greensburg Invitational with 17 points. Jennings County finished second with 78, and Batesville edged Central 138-139 for third.
Eli Wahlman led the Panthers with a ninth-place finish in 11 minutes, 36 seconds for 3,000 meters. Sam Fewell took 15th in 12:17, while Logan Peacock was 16th (12:18), Eddie Ray 18th (12:20) and Noah McFall 20th (12:30).
The Jennings girls finished seventh. Halle Franks finished 22nd in 13:54.5, while Mary Gasper was 33rd (14:26.3), Katie Gasper 38th (14:40.6), Justine Jones 68th (15:54.4) and Kennedy Woods 72nd (16:16.7).

Panthers finish 4th
The Jennings County seventh-grade White team went 2-2 to finish fourth out of eight teams in last weekend’s Silver Creek Tournament. The Panthers beat River Valley 25-22 and Lanesville 25-15, 25-12 before falling to Brownstown 23-25, 25-14, 15-11 and Silver Creek 25-20, 25-13.
Alyssa Simpson led Jennings with a combined 27 points, including 12 aces in the four matches. Charlee Barlow served 22 points, including 12 aces, and Juliann Woodard added 23 points, including 11 aces.
The Panthers (5-4) came back to beat South Dearborn 25-19, 25-23 on Tuesday and fell to Brownstown 25-9, 25-20 on Thursday. Barlow served 12 points, including nine aces, against South Dearborn, and Alyssa Simpson had three points against Brownstown.
Jennings 8th goes 2-4
The Jennings County eighth-grade White team won two of six recent matches, including one of four in the Silver Creek Tournament.
The Panthers fell to River Valler 25-19, 22-25, 15-12; beat Lanesville 10-25, 25-13, 15-7 and lost to Brownstown 25-17, 25-6 and Scottsburg 21-25, 25-13, 15-13 in the Silver Creek event. Taylor Mowery served 13 aces, while Stella Millspaugh added 12 and Selma Smith had nine.
Jennings (2-7) came back to beat South Dearborn 25-17, 25-16 and fell to Brownstown 25-17, 25-20. Zoie Suhre served four aces against South Dearborn, and Mowery and Abby McDonald each had two aces against Brownstown.
