Jay Phelps Submitted

Bartholomew County Clerk Jay Phelps is among the first group of election adminis-trators training to receive a new Ball State Certificate in Election Administration, Technology and Security.

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson had asked representatives from each of Indiana’s 92 counties to apply to train for the certificate, which provides instruction on voting systems, information technology, security basics, election law and more. The certificate program is one of several steps the state is taking to enhance election security readiness.

The first class begins work today, and a new group will be admitted to the program every six months, beginning each August and February.

Also in the first class is Brenda Woods of Brown County, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
