BCSC, Flat Rock-Hawcreek report increased enrollment

Student enrollment at the two public school districts in Bartholomew County has increased slightly in the past year.

The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has 11,360 students after an unofficial count was conducted said Teresa Heiny, BCSC assistant superintendent for human resources. That reflects an increase of 10 students from a year ago, Heiny said.

Heiny said that student enrollment figure does not include students from St. Bartholomew Catholic School or St. Peter’s Lutheran School who attend BCSC for one class period in the day.

The Flatrock-Hawcreek School Corp. is also seeing some student growth compared to last September. The Hope-based district currently has 900 students, an increase of 16, said Shawn Price, Flatrock-Hawcreek School Corp. superintendent.

The increase reflects a third straight year of enrollment growth, attributed in part to a larger kindergarten class, Price said.
