Senior year full of high hopes

Senior year is a time for applying to college, cramming for a test the night before due to “senioritis” and creating memories with friends. Everyone will go their separate ways after this year to follow their futures, and all that will be left of high school are memories.

As a member of the graduating Class of 2019, I hope to get more involved and mature as a person my last year at Jennings County High School. I asked some seniors how they are going to make their final year matter.

Tori Lane has an optimistic outlook for her last year. “I hope to make the best out of every day senior year has to give,” she said.

I asked her to list five things she plans to do before graduation.

“To get more involved in Hurley’s Hooligans (the high school spirit team), tell every teacher who truly impacted my life just that, spend more time with some old friends, apply for as many scholarships as possible and make up my mind about what I want to major in,” Lane said.

Some students plan far ahead for the future, but Breann “Bree” Mefford, the senior class president, said she was going to slow down and enjoy the time she has left.

“I’ve been waiting for senior year since I first entered high school, so I should have high expectations. However, I do not. My biggest expectation for myself is to not get so overwhelmed, enjoy my last year before reality and ‘adulting’ hits. I’ve heard it flies by.”

I asked Mefford what makes our senior class special.

“Our senior class has been thrown a lot within the last six years. We’ve went through so much change and hardship. We’ve lost two peers, we’ve been the trial class and got new principals,” she said.

I asked Mefford if there were any future events she is planning or excited about.

“I’m actually one of the seniors involved with making decisions for our high school’s student section, Hurley’s Hooligans. I’m excited to see all of the students and families come out to support the Panthers and having fun doing so. We have some pretty cool things planned for the student section this year!” she said.

With so many events coming up it’s going to be hard not to make memories. As a graduating senior myself, I cannot wait to see what this year holds for our amazing class.
