Olympians edge Stars

BEDFORD — Antony Espinosa scored a pair of first-half goals Tuesday to lead Columbus East to a 2-1 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Espinosa scored in the 12th minute off an assist from Eric Stiles and in the 18th minute off an assist from Chris Quisenberry. The Stars scored in the 75th minute to avoid the shutout.

East (3-4, 1-2) outshot Bedford 25-13, putting 14 shots on goal to six for the Stars. Zach Roberts recorded five saves.

Hauser game suspended

HOPE — Hauser and Morristown were tied 1-1 at the end of overtime when the game was suspended because of darkness. The game will be finished with a shooutout on Sept. 18 at Hauser.

Sam Johnson scored an unassisted goal for the Jets.

Columbus Christian falls

Martinsville Tabernacle Christian jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead on its way to a 6-1 win at Columbus Christian.

Garrett Spurgeon scored on a penalty kick for the Crusaders (1-3), who were outshot 10-6. Ethan Edwards posted three saves.

Panthers notch first win

MADISON — Carson McNulty netted three goals and an assist to lead Jennings County to its first win of the season, a 6-1 triumph at Madison Shawe.

Jaydan Vanosdol added one goal and three assists and Gavin Gunn had a goal for the Panthers (1-7), who also capitalized on an own-goal. Dreagen Ison recorded six saves.

Woodmen stop Eagles

NASHVILLE — Caleb Yeager scored a pair of goals, but Brown County fell to Greenwood 7-2.

Will Normile had both assists for the Eagles (1-7). Jeff Carlberg posted 20 saves.

GIRLS GOLF

North wins tri match

FRANKLIN — Nathaly Munnicha fired a 36 to win medalist honors and lead Columbus North to a tri-match win at Hillview. The Bull Dogs scored a 167 to 174 for Center Grove and 176 for Franklin.

Alex Munnicha carded a 42 for North. Ella Wilks added a 44, Annie Anderson shot 45, Yestika Nischol had a 46, Gwen Anderson finished with a 50 and Macy Euler had a 55.

Eagles down Patriots

GOSPORT — Ashley Masteller birdied her last three holes to win medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 to lead Brown County to a 186-207 win against Owen Valley at Rolling Meadows.

Allison Stogsdill carded a 48 for the Eagles. Ainslie Winton added a 51, Taylor Poling shot 52 and Abby Padgett had a 63.

Lancers take second

EDINBURGH — Morgan Calhoun won medalist honors with a 44, but Indian Creek outscored Edinburgh 204-224 at Timbergate. Southwestern (Shelby) finished third with a 234.

Haven Link carded a 55 for the Lancers. Maddie McGaha added a 62, Bethany Burton shot 63 and Emma Wade had a 72.

Braves nip Bull Dogs

BLOOMINGTON — No. 6 Terre Haute South won the final two games in the dark at No. 3 singles to hand No. 16 Columbus North a 3-2 Conference Indiana loss is a match played at Bloomington North.

Bhavey Jain beat Aaron Gentry 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Adam Saad and Nathan Lin downed Moritz Wappler and Caleb Morris 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles for the Bull Dogs (4-1).

North’s Kevin Lin fell to Canaan Sellers 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Joey Zhao lost to Mathew Roberts 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Matthew Liu and Eamon Ma fell to Aiden Fellows and Jacob Thacker 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Woodmen blank East

Greenwood won four matches in straight sets in handing Columbus East a 5-0 defeat.

Luke Miller fell to Ethan Gray 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Jackson Stevens lost to Jacob Rathaar 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Nathan Hatchett fell to Nick Belovic 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (3-3).

East’s JT Kuhlman and Jalen Pleak lost to Ben Sobieray and Charlie Brooks 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Derek Heideman and Pranav Kumar fell to Thomas Burtt and Aiden Lutttrell 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) at No. 2 doubles.

Tigers edge Jets

HOPE — Hauser won both doubles matches, but Triton Central swept the singles matches to hand the Jets a 3-2 loss.

Jacob Luken and Aaron Mee beat Blake Anderson and Ryan Shipley, 6-4, 7-6 (1) at No. 1 doubles for the Jets (3-1). Tyler Moore and Caleb Hoover downed Cameron Elder and Alex Crouse 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Hauser’s Ethan Wallace fell to Luke Sanders 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Sean Miller lost to Jordan Brandman 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Keagan Miller fell to Caleb Anderson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Franklin clips Lancers

FRANKLIN — Franklin did not lose a game in the two doubles matches in posting a 5-0 win against Edinburgh in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Coltan Henderson fell to Josiah Rockey 6-1, 1-6, (10-4) at No. 1 singles, Brayden McManaway lost to Nathan Tyler 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Travis Jones fell to Sam Auger 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers.

Edinburgh’s Parker Neuman and Kolton Reed lost to Adam Johnson and Jackson Klem at No. 1 doubles, and Isaiah Estes and Trevor Moon fell to Jared Ross and Jon Ott 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Trinity takes loss

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran forced third-set tiebreakers at two positions in a 5-0 loss to South Central.

Jace Crockett fell 1-6, 7-5, (10-5) at No. 1 singles, Pierce McCammon lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Noah Voelker fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Cougars (1-4) Hunter Morgan and Cameron Gruenwald lost 6-4, 2-6, (10-6) at No. 1 doubles and Caleb Gruenwald and Jan Lichte fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets sweep Jackets

HOPE — Hauser opened its Mid-Hoosier Conference schedule with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 win against Morristown.

Kylie Lock pounded 11 kills, Aunuka Wasil recorded 32 assists, Olivia Wright had three blocks, Melanie Taylor notched 10 digs and Sophia Mussalliami served four aces to lead the Jets (8-5, 1-0).

Also for Hauser, Hannah Johnson added eight kills and two aces, Marnie Schwarzkopf pounded six kills and two blocks, Wright had six kills and Taylor contributed two assists and two aces. Shelby Fugate tallied one block and Shelby Fugate eight digs, Wasil and Andie Clark each added five digs and Lock served three aces.

Crusaders win in four

Columbus Christian bounced back from a third-set setback to finish off a 25-9, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 win against Martinsville Tabernacle Christian.

Michaela Schundelmier recorded six kills, six digs and four aces; and Hannah Stair had 19 assists, eight digs and six aces to lead the Crusaders (7-1). Mayah Schundelmier added seven kills, a block and two aces.

Also for Columbus Christian Lauren Hunnicutt tallied eight kills, a block assist and three digs, and Kayla Jones notched nine digs and three aces. Madison Henderson contributed five kills, one solo and one assist block, seven digs and three aces.

Pirates handle Panthers

GREENSBURG — Jennings County came close in the third set in a 25-18, 25-18, 26-24 loss at Greensburg.

Mary Leahigh, Liz Ertel and Marley Stearns all pounded five kills for the Panthers (3-12). Karlee Madinger recorded 14 assists, Stearns had three blocks, Hanah Bertram notched 11 digs and Abi Vogel served two aces.

South Decatur falls in 4

GREENSBURG — South Decatur won the third set, but North Decatur recoverd in the fourth to claim a 25-18, 25-14, 9-25, 25-18 MHC win.

Madison Owens and Lana Bell each pounded seven kills, Whitnye Burton recorded 12 assists, Hannah Ballard and Sam Goodfellow each had a block assist, Karah Biddinger notched 28 digs and Owens and Brook Somers each served two aces for the Cougars (4-8).

Brownstown tops Trinity

BROWNSTOWN — Trinity Lutheran was swept 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 at Brownstown Central.

Abby Schult pounded nine kills, Bailey Reynolds recorded 20 assists, Hannah Sabotin had four blocks, Savannah Harweger notched 10 digs and Elly Carter served two aces to lead the Cougars (8-8).

GREENWOOD — Maddie Bell scored a pair of goals to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 4-1 win at Greenwood Christian Academy.

Sidney Hoene added a goal and an assist for the Cougars (4-3). Flossie Cooper had the other goal.
