CRAWFORDSVILLE

Ruth Eileen (Brown) Fyffe Gentry, age 95, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 with her loving family at her side.

She was born February 3, 1923 in White Heath, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Clara Mae (Winters) Brown.

She graduated from Darlington High School in 1941.

She married Donald D. Fyffe in 1947; he died in 1969.

She then married Willie Gentry in 1972; he died in 1989.

She worked at R.R. Donnelley prior to her first marriage and Loeb’s Department Store in the early ’70s.

The volunteer job she loved most was her 34 years as a Pink Lady at Culver Union Hospital, transitioning to St. Clare then Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville.

She loved the people she worked with and helping others. She volunteered until age 90.

She was an active member of Yountsville Christian Church and loved helping with the Yountsville Ladies Aide.

Ruth was a homemaker. She referred to this lifelong job as being a “domestic engineer” and she did that job as she did everything, with skill and passion.

There was very little she couldn’t tackle by putting her mind to it — cook, crafter with a definite artistic flair, volunteer, money manager, a wonderful friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and a member of the Greatest Generation — to name a few of her talents.

She was a remarkable person, loved and admired by so many people who were privileged to know her as we, her family did.

She did many different crafts over the years, but truly loved making miniature houses — and she made several.

She is survived by a son, Ron Fyffe of Indianapolis, daughters, Terri Fyffe of Crawfordsville and Jan (Mark) Hatfield of Columbus; and grandsons, Bryan Fyffe of Alabama and Zachary Hatfield of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her brother, Roy Brown and his wife, Eloise and her brother, Willard Brown, sister, Helen Cornell Adams; daughter, Cindy Lou Fyffe; and a grandson, Christopher Fyffe.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
