Sheriff’s department hires deputy

Staff Reports

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department has hired Robert A. Cooper as its newest deputy.

Cooper, 38, is a native of Franklin and, after 20 years of military service, is a recent U.S. Army retiree.

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers swore in Cooper Sept. 4 in the department’s training room as family and deputies watched.

“Deputy Cooper will be responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. He must exercise independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations and he will often work under stressful, high-risk conditions,” Myers said.
