Bull Dogs edge Falcons

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North scored two goals three minutes apart in the second half Thursday night and then held on for a 2-1 win at Perry Meridian.

Kurt Nusterer broke a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute off a cross from Ben Malone. The Bull Dogs (4-6-1) made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when Graham Keele took a pass from Ernesto Perez and scored.

The Falcons scored their goal in the 75th minute. North’s Noah Kestler recorded seven saves.

Jets rally past Crusaders

Columbus Christian jumped out to a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but Hauser rallied to tie the game at 4-4 at halftime, then posted a pair of second-half goals for a 6-4 victory.

Justin Stafford scored three goals for the Jets (4-2-1), and Will Trotter, Caleb Carnine, and Kameron Lawson. Stafford and Will Trotter had assists. Caleb Walker recorded four saves

C.J. Reed scored all four goals for the Crusaders (1-6). Garrett Spurgeon and Sam Flint each had two assists. Ethan Edwards posted nine saves.

Olympians win in four

NEW ALBANY — Columbus East bounced back from a third-set setback to finish off a 27-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-12 win at New Albany.

Allison Mack pounded 20 kills, Madyson Foster recorded 41 assists, Rilee Jessee had three blocks, Keeleigh Kikendall notched 23 digs and Stella Kleffman served four aces to lead the Olympians (5-10, 5-1).

Jessee also tallied eight kills, and CJ Clausen added seven kills and two blocks. Sam Hutcheson had two blocks, Mack and Ashlyn Bergman each posted 14 digs and Kikendall served two aces.

North falls to Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Columbus North ran into one of the state’s best Class 3A teams and fell 25-10, 25-14, 25-15 at Brownstown Central.

Emma Tynan pounded seven kills, Lily Meyercord recorded nine assists, Lauryn James had one solo and two block assists, Maddy Sebahar notched 14 digs and Carley Finke served one ace to lead the Bull Dogs (5-7).

Also for North, Agustina Fainguersch and James each tallied six kills. Gabby Genth added two block assists.

Eagles sweep Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh came close in the third set, but Brown County posted a 25-13, 25-18, 25-23 victory.

Mekenzie Dunnuck led the Eagles (10-2) with five kills, four blocks and three aces. Addison Branson recorded five kills and seven digs, Maggie Redmond notched eight assists and Shea Keller had four blocks

The Lancers fell to 0-18.

Panthers win in five

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County overcame a first-set loss to rally for a 19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 16-25, 15-8 win against Rock Creek Academy.

Marley Stearns led the Panthers (5-12) with seven kills and four aces. Karlee Madinger recorded 20 assists, Abi Vogel had seven blocks and Hanah Bertram notched 27 digs.

Highlanders top North

Floyd Central won four matches in straight sets in handing No. 14 Columbus North a 4-1 loss.

Joey Zhao and Matthew Lui scored the point for the Bull Dogs (5-3) with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Gabe Cora and Joe Lincoln at No. 2 doubles.

North’s Kevin Lin fell to Lucas Saramaici 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Bhavey Jain lost to Connor Mason 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Eamon Ma fell to Eric Whitehouse 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Adam Saad and Nathan Lin lost to Jordan Wilson and Alex Poe 7-6, 5-7, (10-7) at No. 1 doubles.

Owls down Olympians

Columbus East won at No. 3 singles, but that was all in a 4-1 loss to Seymour.

Pranav Kumar beat Trey Hohenstreiter 6-3, 6-2 for the lone point for the Olympians (3-6).

Luke Miller fell to Adam Berry 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Jackson Stevens lost to Isaac Hardin  6-2, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 singles. JT Kuhlman and Jalen Pleak fell to Will Rinehart and Brandon Hubbard 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Nathan Hatchett and Derek Heideman lost to Sam Schmidt and Andrew Levine 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Pirates blank Jets

HOPE — Greensburg won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win at Hauser.

Ethan Wallace fell to Trevor Foster 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Sean Miller lost to Brett Stringer 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Keagan Miller fell to Charlie Pumphrey 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (5-3).

Hauser’s Jacob Luken and Aaron Mee lost to Logan Smith and Ben Duerstock 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Tyler Moore and Caleb Hoover fell to Sam Bower and Isaac Tebbe 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Saints topple Lancers

INDIANAPOLIS — Edinburgh had to forfeit the No. 3 singles spot in a 5-0 loss at Indianapolis Lutheran.

Coltan Henderson fell to Hogan Scanlan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Brayden McManaway lost to Nik Jeffries 6-0, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (1-7). Lutheran’s Matthew Alter won by forfeit at No. 3 singles.

Edinburgh’s Kolton Reed and Parker Neumann lost to Jonas Akers and Cohl Erwin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Isaiah Estes and Trevor Moon fell to Riley Settlemyre and Nick Hiatt 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

GIRLS GOLF

Lancers take second

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh finished second in the Mid-Hoosier Conference Tournament with a 217 at Timbergate. North Decatur won with a 208.

Morgan Calhoun led the Lancers with a 47. Haven Link carded a 48, Emma Wade added a 60 and Maddie McGaha and Brooke Link each shot 62.

South Decatur finished fourth with a 249. Annie Gant led the Cougars with a 54. Katie Vandebur carded a 63, Ashley Vanaman added a 64, Kamrie Owens shot 68 and Joy Tryon had 72.

GIRLS SOCCER

Panthers rout Shiners

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County ran out to a 9-0 halftime lead on its way to a 13-0 win against Rising Sun.

Baylee Byford and Jena Walker each scored two goals for the Panthers (8-3), and Naomi Beal, Morgan Lane, Lauren Green, Callie Wilder, Sonya Miller, Delany Burkman, Kenna Maschino, Emily Montgomery and Averi Zamora all had one.

Beal notched three assists, and Andrea Reitman, Katie Pappennheim, Byford, Burkman and Zamora all added one for Jennings, which outshot the Shiners 20-0. Kenna Maschino, Tori Lee, Faith Robertson, Mackenzie Newkirk combined on the shutout.
