Hypnotist to perform again at school

Hypnotist T.G. Rivers will perform for the third time at Jennings County High School, at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 in the school’s auditorium.

The show has been a successful fundraiser for the sophomore class, and class sponsors Eric Wernke and Stuart Book arranged for Rivers’ return.

Tickets are $10 at the door, but those who purchase early will be in a raffle to win a $50 gift certificate.

Those who want to be hypnotized have a chance to be selected for the show, or one can sit in the audience and watch.

Senior Bree Mefford attended her first hypnotist show last year and decided she wanted to be hypnotized by Rivers.

Everyone experiences hypnotist differently, and Mefford said she remembered everything she did while hypnotized. Mefford said she felt calm and relaxed under hypnosis, but was “out of control of her own body.”

When directed by Rivers’ commands, Mefford said she could hear the audience’s laughter, but she was not paying attention to the audience to realize that they were laughing at her.

“It just felt like background music inside my head,” Mefford said.

After she was taken out of hypnosis, Mefford said she felt as if she had taken a long power nap and felt refreshed after the show. Mefford said she felt embarrassed while watching videos of her hypnotic state, but is looking forward to seeing her friends get hypnotized at the upcoming show.
