Author to sign copies of ‘Racing With Faith’ book

Local author and racing fan Danny Burton will be at the Bartholomew County Public Library to sign copies of his new book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The book, "Racing With Faith," shows how the two can work together by ending each story with Bible verses that join racing and faith.

Columbus Revolution to hold basketball tryouts

The Columbus Revolution basketball program will hold tryouts Saturday at Columbus North. Times are 3 to 4 p.m. for Grades 2 and 3, 4 to 5 p.m. for Grades 4 and 5, 5 to 6 p.m. for Grades 6 and 7 and 6 to 7 p.m. for eighth-graders.

Players should arrive 20 minutes early in the lobby outside of Memorial Gym to fill out registration forms and size for uniforms.

Table Tennis Association hosting Fall League

The Columbus Area Table Tennis Association’s 2018 Fall League will continue for eight more weeks at Donner Center. The league is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, except Oct. 31, when the league will take place on the following day, Nov. 1.

The league will host a doubles tournament on Oct. 10 and a singles tournament Nov. 7 and 14. Players of all skill levels are welcome, and trophies are awarded to singles tournament winners.

Fees are $50 for adults or $25 for ages 18 and under for the entire league or $8 per individual week and $10 for singles tournament sessions. ‘Night of a Legend Boogie Mania’ set for fairgrounds

Hoosier Pro Wrestling will return to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds on Oct. 6 for "Night of a Legend Boogie Mania," featuring the Boogie Woogie Man, Handsome Jimmy Valiant.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and bell time is 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $13, with kids 4-and-under free.

Volleyball club to hold open gyms, tryouts

Hope Area Volleyball Club (HAVOC) will have two elite club teams this year.

HAVOC will host open gyms Oct. 7, 14 and 21 at Hauser High School. Tryouts will be Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. for high school girls and from 3 to 5 p.m. for junior high girls.

Athletes must have physicals before trying out for teams

Central Middle School athletics director Alex Engelbert is reminding all prospective winter-sport athletes that they must have a fully-completed IHSAA physical on file before trying out for the team.

This includes boys and girls basketball, wrestling and cheer and dance members.

Chili-Dip fundraiser to benefit East golf teams

Columbus East’s boys and girls golf teams will host the Chili-Dip Golf Tournament at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at Otter Creek.

Cost is $50 and includes greens fees, cart, chili and other goodies. Hole sponsorships also are available for $100. Proceeds will go toward golf instruction for the winter months and to help purchase uniforms, bats and with other expenses for the boys and girls teams.
