Northside boys tennis remains unbeaten

The Northside Middle School boys tennis team won three matches last week to improve to 9-0. The Spartans beat Franklin 5-0 on Monday, Indian Creek 5-0 on Tuesday and Central 4-1 on Thursday.

Northside players winning multiple matches included Anvay Atram, Amrit Kar, Ronit Jha, Param Patel and Sid Jain. Other winners included Matthew Degner, Ben Genter, Darren Li, Leo Guo, Jaeheon Shim and Luke Sequiera.

The Spartan JV team Franklin 5-0, Indian Creek 3-0 and Central 3-1. Multiple JC winners for Northside were Zach Kiser, Nichoulas Bergman, Ajay Singireddy, Shim and Degner. Other JV winners were Sequeira, Guo, Kar, Patel, Jain and Genter.

North JV routs Guerin

Columbus North’s junior varsity jumped out to a 41-0 halftime lead and went on to post a 54-0 win against Guerin Catholic.

Quarterback Cody Ruble ran for touchdowns of 2, 6, 22 and 15 yards for the Bull Dogs (4-1). Giovani Alejandro ran 5 and 24 yards for scores, and Royce Lofton ran for touchdowns of 6 and 15 yards.

Carter Ward connected on 6 of 8 extra points.

East JV picks up win

The Columbus East JV rolled to a 29-6 win against New Albany.

Trey Neal returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown for the Olympians (3-2). Quarterback Malachi Parks ran for a 2-point conversion and for touchdowns of 10 and 5 yards, and Thorne Ross ran 40 yards for a score.

Kai Stidham converted 3 of 3 extra points.

Panthers top Chargers

The Jennings County seventh-graders claimed a 28-6 win against Central.

Branden Braun ran for touchdowns of 41 and 63 yards, and Sam Burkman ran 5 yards for a score and threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Harrison for the Panthers (2-3-1). Taylor Bustle and Braun combined on a tackle in the end zone for a safety.

Olympians JV rolls

Kathleen Soedel netted four goals and an assist to lead Columbus East to an 8-0 win at New Albany.

Gretchen Comer added two goals and an assist, and Chloe Miller and Gabby Schuetz each scored a goal for the Olympians (5-2). Jessica Wills notched two assists, and Riley Gaskill, Grace Wiltsey, Ashley Thomasson and Kloe Goode all had an assist.

Erin McIntyre and Kristina Rueda did not need to make a save in combining for the shutout.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Jennings boys win

The Jennings Middle School boys won both the Central Invitational and the Jennings County Invitational.

In the Central meet, Eli Wahlman led the Panthers with a second-place finish in 11 minutes, 18 seconds. Eddie Ray took fourth in 11:32, while Sam Fewell was fifth (11:46), Logan Peacock seventh (11:50) and Noah McFall 10th (11:57).

Wahlman led Jennings with a third-place finish in the Jennings invite in 11:50. Fewell took fifth in 12:18, while Ray was eighth (12:34), Peacock 10th (12:46) and McFall 11th (12:51).

The Panther girls finished second behind St. Peter’s in the Central meet. Macy Andis finished third in 17:37, while Halle Franks was ninth (14:01), Katie Gasper 13th (14:25), Mary Gasper 14th (14:32) and Kennedy Woods 24tth (15:34).

Jennings finished third behind St. Peter’s and Immanuel Lutheran in its own meet. Franks finished seventh in 14:17, while Andis was eighth (14:30), Katie Gasper 10th (14:27), Mary Gasper 11th (14:45) and Woods 23rd (16:44).

Panthers, Chargers split

The Jennings County and Central seventh- and eighth-grade teams split on Thursday, with the Chargers taking the seventh-grade match 25-18, 20-25, 15-7, and the Panthers capturing the eighth-grade match 25-9, 25-17.

Megan Vogel led the Jennings eighth-graders (9-10) with five aces. Lucy Brown led the Panther seventh-graders (11-7) with five aces.

The Jennings seventh-graders were coming off a third-place finish in the Tri-County Tournament. The Panthers fell to Seymour 25-13, 25-23 and beat Batesville 25-17, 25-10. Alyssa Simpson served three aces against Seymour, and Charlee Barlow had six aces against Batesville.
