BOYS SOCCER

East edges Jeffersonville

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East wrapped up the regular season Saturday with a 3-2 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Jeffersonville.

Rick Sanchez, Antony Espinosa and Marcus Zaspel scored goals for the Olympians (7-7-1, 4-2-1), who finished third in the HHC. Jorge Nieto, Korbin Hatcher and Eric Stiles had assists.

East outshot the Red Devils 23-7, putting 13 shots on goal, while Jeffersonville scored on both of its shots on goal. Zach Roberts played the first 68 minutes in goal for the Olympians, and Cam Burton played the final 12 minutes in goal.

Kings blanks Crusaders

Columbus Christian ended its regular season with a 7-0 loss to Kings Academy.

Kings outshot the Crusaders (2-7-1) 22-3. Conner Emily recorded 14 saves.

Crusaders win conference

DUGGER — Columbus Christian added the Southern Roads Conference Tournament title to its regular-season conference championship after winning three matches in straight sets on Saturday.

The Crusaders beat Dugger Union 25-8, 25-22 and Evansville Christian 25-13, 25-9 in pool play before downing Medora 25-14, 25-9 in the title match.

Mayah Schundelmier recorded 33 kills, one solo and two assist blocks, six digs and 10 aces; Lauren Hunnicutt had 16 kills, one solo block, seven digs and four aces and Hannah Stair tallied 49 assists, one assist block, five digs and nine aces for the Crusaders (23-2-1).

Also for Columbus Christian, Michaela Schundelmier notched five kills, 25 digs and two aces, and Madison Henderson added 11 kills, 17 digs and nine aces. Libero Kayla Jones played all the way around Saturday and finished with three kills, six assists, one assist block, 14 digs and four aces.

Olympians fall twice

FISHERS — Columbus East came close in the first set in a 27-25, 25-18, 25-13 loss to Noblesville and in the first and third sets in a 26-24, 25-18, 26-24 loss at Class 4A No. 4 Hamilton Southeastern in the North-South Classic.

Allison Mack pounded 15 kills, Madyson Foster recorded 24 assists, CJ Clausen had three blocks, Keeleigh Kikendall notched 18 digs and Cadence Gilley served four aces to lead the Olympians (8-16).

Clausen and Rilee Jessee each added 12 kills, and Gilley tallied 12 assists. Regann Jessee had two blocks, Reece Whitehead contributed 17 digs and two aces and Kikendall had two aces.

Eagles sweep Cadets

NASHVILLE — Brown County had a close first set, but cruised in the next two to claim a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 win against Cascade.

Chloe Lee pounded six kills, Abigail Hollander recorded 11 assists, Mekenzie Dunnuck had three solo and one assist block, Baelyn Koester and Chloe Lee each notched 10 digs and Maggie Redmond served five aces to lead the Eagles (13-6).

Also for Brown County, Evey Crimmins added five kills, and Redmond tallied eight assists.

Hauser girls win classic

HOPE — Ryan Ault and Tammy Essex won the boys and girls races, and Hauser won the girls team title in the Jets’ Hope Heritage Days Classic. Hauser had the lone full girls team, and Morristown had the lone full boys team.

Essex finished in 23 minutes, 5 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Addison Jones took third in 24:36, while Lexi Tallent was eighth (31:01), Leah Joyce ninth (31:40) and Ninel Garcia-Sims 10th (32:42).

Ault was clocked in 17:42. The Jets’ Emils Vigants finished second in 18:24, and Thomas Essex was 14th in 21:45.

Eagle boys third in WIC

GREENCASTLE — Brown County’s boys finished third in the Western Indiana Conference meet. Northview won with 44 points to 61 for Edgewood and 124 for the Eagles.

Marino Dolph led Brown County with a second-place finish in 17:22.6. Jackson McPheeters took seventh in 17:44.2, while Brandon Leslie was 12th (18:12.9), Cameron Fox 40th (19:30.1) and Josh Parry 66th (21:05.9).

The Eagles had three girls individuals. Eme Koester finished sixth in 21:03.8, Anna Fleetwood took 10th in 21:42.5 and Maris Wyman was 31st (23:13.2).

Lancer girls take fifth

FRANKLIN — Edinburgh’s girls finished fifth in the Johnson County meet with 155 points. Center Grove won with 25.

Briana Tomlin led the Lancers with a 72nd-place finish in 30:31. Malkia Willard took 79th in 32:57, while Kaylia Kelley was 83rd (35:27), Faith Walker 84th (39:42) and Elleena Dayton 85th (39:45).

Edinburgh had two boys individuals. Zach White finished 88th in 26:45, and Nicholas Detling was 89th in 26:58.

Panthers fall in final

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County saw its season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Greensburg in the Jennings Sectional final.

Joe Kelley and Wyatt St. John scored the point for the Panthers (3-12), beating Sam Bower and Isaac Tebbe 7-6 (3), 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Thomas Schuler fell to Trevor Foster 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Kyle Tempest lost to Brett Stringer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Adam Leach fell to Charlie Pumphrey 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Weston Miller and Kent Biehle lost to Logan Smith and Ben Duerstock 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Thunderbirds top Lancers

BLOOMFIELD — Class A No. 9 Eastern Greene ran out to a 51-0 halftime lead on its way to a 57-8 win against Edinburgh on Friday.

The lone touchdown for the Lancers (0-7) came on a Tyson Sackman pass to Darius Bennett. Sackman’s pass to Austin Streeval accounted for the 2-point conversion.

“The kids fought. They really did,” Edinburgh coach Jason Burton said. “We’re pretty banged up right now. We had only 14 kids dressed tonight and had to play some players out of position. (Eastern Greene) actually had more seniors on Senior Night than we had in uniform.”
