SHELBYVILLE — Indianapolis Lutheran came out striking right out of the gate against Hauser in the Class A boys soccer sectional opening round game on Monday hosted by Southwestern (Shelby).
The Saints picked up two quick goals early in the first half and added another insurance goal to end the Jets season with a 3-0 loss.
In the seventh minute, Lutheran made the perfect pass forward to Riley Wilson on the right side of the field. His shot found the upper left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Only a few minutes later, the Saints added on to the lead. They made another deep forward pass, this time to Garrin Hartson, who took a couple of dribbles down the left side and took the shot that hit the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
Lutheran thought that it had a third goal in the closing seconds of the first half, but an offside was called by the assistant referee, and the goal was disallowed, so the score remained 2-0 at halftime.
The added insurance by the Saints didn’t come until just past the midpoint of the second half. Hartson made a few touches on the ball and got by the Hauser defenders. He had an open shot at the net in which he converted to put the game away.
Lutheran took 10 shots, with six coming on goal, while The Jets (3-6-1) took two shots, with one on goal. Kameron Lawson recorded three saves for Hauser.
