Rebels top Olympians

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East came closer in each set Thursday night, but couldn’t catch Roncalli in a 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 loss.

Madyson Foster led the Olympians (9-17) with 29 assists and two aces. Allison Mack pounded 12 kills, CJ Clausen had one block and Keeleigh Kikendall notched 18 digs.

Also for East, Reece Whitehead added six kills. Cadence Gilley tallied 15 digs.

North falls to Franklin

FRANKLIN — Columbus North came closer in the third set, but fell 25-12, 25-9, 25-19 at Franklin.

Agustina Fainguersch recorded three kills and 16 digs, Emma Tynan tallied three kills and two aces, Sarah Bennett pounded three kills and two blocks and Lily Meyercord had nine assists and two blocks to lead the Bull Dogs (8-16).

Cougars sweep Eagles

GREENSBURG — South Decatur picked up a 25-10, 28-26, 25-15 victory against Jac-Cen-Del.

Lana Bell pounded 14 kills, Whytnye Burton recorded 14 assists, Brook Somers and Sam Goodfellow each had one block, Somers notched 14 digs and Madison Owens served 10 aces to lead the Cougars (7-16). Owens added 11 kills, Hannah Ballard had 14 assists and Karah Biddinger tallied 14 digs.

Eagles take sixth

NASHVILLE — Brown County won the third set, but North Putnam regrouped to finish off a 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19 win in the Western Indiana Conference fifth-place match.

The Eagles fell to 14-7.

Owls oust Panthers

FLOYDS KNOBS — Jennings County saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Seymour in the semifinals of the Class 3A Floyd Central Sectional.

The Owls outshot the Panthers (11-7) 15-6.

Trinity moves into final

CLARKSVILLE — Trinity Lutheran edged Christian Academy of Indiana 2-1 (3-1 on penalty kicks) in the semifinals of the Class A Providence Sectional.

After both teams missed their opening penalty attempts, Kailene Cockerham, Flossie Cooper and Emma Goecker all converted for the Cougars 7-8, and Genesis Munoz came up with a pair of saves, including a diving block on the Warriors’ first try.

Each team had a goal through regulation and the 14-minute overtime session. Sidney Hoene got Trinity on the board first by collecting a loose ball after a free kick from Emma Goecker, turning and firing from near the penalty mark in the 10th minute. The Warriors tied it 10 minutes later.

The Cougars will play Providence for the sectional championship at 1 p.m. Saturday. Trinity fell to the Pioneers 5-0 in its season opener.
