Columbus resident Mayita Rising has been named the Sharon C. Leavitt Volunteer of the Year for Columbus-based Clarity.
Rising was presented the honor at the nonprofit agency’s recent annual meeting at Lucabe Coffee Co. in downtown Columbus. The award, begun in 2013, is named after Sharon C. Leavitt, a three-term board member and volunteer with Clarity.
“It is all the volunteers who really make this whole thing tick,” said Tom Bond, Clarity’s executive director.
Rising was lauded especially for her work as a translator with Latino clients without polished English skills, even donating time at all hours on an on-call basis.
The winner said she was humbled by the recognition, “when there are so many others who deserve this award as much or more than me.”
She added that she was appreciative of how Clarity “shows the love of God to every client.” She dedicated the award to her family, for the support they have provided her that allows her to serve.
