First Presbyterian Church — The church will celebrate World Communion Sunday with a hymn sing service featuring music from around the globe and a liturgy by Donna Brand reflecting on the Last Supper. The Rev. Cal Brand will lead the congregation in the sacrament.

Grace Lutheran Church — Sunday’s message is “Travelling Light: Life does not consist in the abundance of one’s possessions,” based on Luke 12:13-21. Worship is at 8 and 10:30 a.m., with Sunday School for all ages at 9:25 a.m.
Confirmation students and parents will meet in the west wing from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
ALPHA Class continues Tuesday on the topic, “How can I resist evil?” and the Searching Scripture class will continue with a study of the Ten Commandments. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. Child care will be available.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday’s 10 a.m. sermon, “Teach Your Children Well,” marks the 20th Sunday after Pentecost with text from Job 1:1; 2:1-10; Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12; and Mark 10:2-16.
Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Faith Works,” and theme for the day will be “We are all in the Family of Christ.” Scripture from James 2:14-17 will be shared by the liturgist, and Teresa Covert will present the children’s sermon.
The choir will be sharing special music, directed by Kathy Bush and accompanied by Chris Kimerling.
World Communion Sunday will be celebrated with a special offering, and Holy Communion will be served. The congregation is invited to bring an item from another country for display. A time of fellowship will follow the worship service at 2781 N. 500E, Columbus.
Larry and Connie Nolting will host the Baker’s Dozen Monday night Bible study and Chris Kimerling will host the Journey group, both meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday. New members are welcome at either of the classes.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — Mass is at 10 a.m. Sunday. Manon Voice will be sharing her experiences of healing through the use of poetry and supplemental experiential text and readings. Her reading this week is “Healing Through Word and Spirit.”

The Ruby Tuesday Women’s Bible Study has begun a new study, “The Joy of Encouragement,” by David Jeremiah. This group meets from 10 to 11:15 a.m. each Tuesday at the church.
There is a Men’s and Women’s 7-week Bible Study that meets from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Men’s study will be “The Armor of God” and the Women’s study will be “Gideon: Your Weakness. God’s Strength” by Priscilla Shirer.

SAM Luncheon for October is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 11 in The Friendship Center.
The first Discipleship Training Program class will be 9:30 a.m. October 13, with location to be announced. This class is a New Testament elective on “Philippians” and will be taught be the Rev. Glenn Black. The class will last 6 to 7 weeks and the cost is $25. Registration forms will be on the church website.

First United Methodist Church — The church will offer an education forum at 10:10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Open to the public, the sessions will use the documentary “Rise Above the Mark” about the issues and challenges facing Indiana’s public schools. The Rev. Howard Boles, BCSC superintendent Jim Roberts and Flat Rock — Hawcreek superintendent Shawn Price will participate as speakers and resources.
Petersville United Methodist Church — Noodle-making has begun in preparation for the annual turkey supper the first weekend in November. Each Thursday at 9 a.m., women and men are invited to help make the noodles.
