Local college seeks

diversity nominees

Nominations are being accepted for IUPUC’s 2019 Excellence in Diversity award.

The award is intended to recognize and honor demonstrated commitment and outstanding efforts toward building a diverse and inclusive community.

Nominees must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Engage in meaningful diversity activities beyond one’s professional responsibilities to encourage excellence through inclusion in the IUPUC community.

Display leadership in advancing diversity on campus and in the community.

Demonstrate efforts that foster a more inclusive and equitable learning and work environment.

Show evidence of inclusive teaching and program development beyond one’s responsibilities.

Conduct research and creative activity related to the experiences, realities, and contributions of persons from diverse populations.

Provide leadership in programming, training, or other experiences which serve to advance diversity and inclusion at IUPUC.

Individuals or organizations may nominate or self-nominate online at iupuc.edu/diversity. Nominations are encouraged from individuals or groups of faculty, staff, students or community members.

E-mail nominations may be sent to the IUPUC Office of the Vice Chancellor and Dean at vicechancellor@iupuc.edu on or before Nov. 16. Nominees must submit a detailed description of the initiative, the efforts made to promote diversity and an inclusive community and its impact, according to the university.

Individuals or organizations will be selected, notified and announced at a special recognition function on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Individuals who have questions about the nomination process or the award may email Lori Montalbano at lmontal@iupuc.edu.

Universities announce transfer partnership

Ivy Tech Community College and Marian University have formed a transfer partnership that will allow students to transfer from associate of science to bachelor of science programs.

Through the 2+2 program, students are able to complete the first two years of their education and earn an associate of science degree at Ivy Tech and then transfer to Marian to complete a bachelor of science degree in two additional years.

Upon acceptance to Marian, Ivy Tech students will be able to transfer with junior status.

Students who complete Ivy Tech’s associate of science degree in business administration will be able to transfer their credits to a bachelor of science degree at Marian University in business analytics, finance, management, or marketing.

Individuals who complete an associate of science degree in psychology will be able to transfer into the bachelor of science program in psychology at Marian. All the credits students earn for the associate degrees will transfer into the respective bachelor’s degree programs with no credit loss.

Columbus native named Wichita State dean

A Columbus native has been named college of engineering dean at Wichita State University.

Dennis Livesay, who attended Columbus East High School, was selected as dean to replace Royce Bowden, who resigned earlier this year. Livesay’s appointment takes effect Jan. 1.

Livesay has held academic positions as professor of bioinformatics and genomics and was founding director of the bioinformatics and computational biology PhD program at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He is also a former faculty member at Cal Poly University at Pamona in California from 2000 to 2006.
