NTN workers treated for smoke inhalation after plant fire

Several NTN Driveshaft employees were treated for smoke inhalation after an industrial equipment fire was reported to the Columbus Fire Department.

Firefighters were sent to NTN at 1:57 a.m. Monday about the fire at 8251 S. International Drive. Upon arrival, they found a forge press machine on fire and smoke showing from the building’s exterior, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

As firefighters went into the building, they were told by NTN representatives that the fire was out, Wilson said.

Eleven employees reported possible smoke inhalation, and all were checked by firefighters and Columbus Regional Health EMTs.

Seven of the employees were taken to Columbus Regional Health to be evaluated, although their conditions were unknown, Wilson said.

The other four employees declined to be transported to the hospital, Wilson said.

After providing medical care to the employees, firefighters ventilated smoke from the building, Wilson said.

Cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and a damage estimate is not currently available.
