Local man accused of dealing methamphetamine

A local man was arrested on a charge of dealing in methamphetamine after Columbus police found him in possession of a large amount of the drug.

Officers saw a vehicle in the 1100 block of Washington Street that had a false registration at 5:30 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

They spoke with the vehicle driver — Christopher M. Bennett, 35, of 222 N. Gladstone Ave. — and determined that his driver’s license was suspended, Harris said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a digital scale and two unused corner-cut plastic bags commonly used to sell narcotics, Harris said.

Officers also found a large amount of methamphetamine that Bennett had attempted to conceal in his pants, Harris said.

Bennett was arrested on felony charges of dealing in methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

Bennett was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $332,500 bond, jail officials said.
