North shuts down Braves
TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North led by only three points at halftime Saturday afternoon, but in the second half, the Bull Dogs got defensive.
North limited Terre Haute South to six points over the final two quarters, including just one in the fourth period, to pull away for a 46-25 win and remain unbeaten in Conference Indiana.
“Especially in the second half, we were really aware of their key people and prevented them from getting good shots,” North coach Pat McKee said. “Then, the second half, we also rebounded very well.”
Alexa McKinley scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Bull Dogs (4-3, 2-0). Sierra Norman added 12, and Annie Anderson had nine.
North led 22-19 at halftime.
“We actually in the first quarter didn’t play great, but the second quarter, Sierra Norman hit a couple of nice shots to give us a lift, and Alexa McKinley and Annie Anderson got some baskets and made some free throws,” McKee said. “Nadia Lomax did some good things, and Tessa (Lomax) got in a little bit of foul trouble and we weren’t able get her as involved in the offense as she normally is. Kaylyn Bates came off the bench and gave us a nice lift in each quarter.”
Columbus Christian wins
WASHINGTON — Columbus Christian trailed 17-14 at halftime before rallying for a 45-39 win at Washington Catholic.
Jones 14 led the Crusaders (5-3) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. Lydia Roth added 11 points, while Kaitlyn Conrad grabbed 15 rebounds and Grace Lorimor had 13 rebounds.
Trojans topple Panthers
ST. LEON — East Central jumped out to a 23-11 halftime lead and went on to hand Jennings County a 50-33 loss.
Callie Wilder led the Panthers (3-5) with nine points.
Eagles fall to Cadets
CLAYTON — Brown County dropped its Western Conference opener 44-33 at Cascade.
The Eagles fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the WIC.
Twisters top Cougars
OLDENBURG — South Decatur was within 11-9 after one quarter, but Oldenburg Academy pulled away for a 69-43 win.
Hannah Ballard led the Cougars (1-9) with 13 points. Annie Gant and Madison Owens each added nine.

East wins Super 6 Duals
JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East rolled through five opponents to win the Jeffersonville Super 6 Duals. The Olympians beat New Albany 83-0, Charlestown 60-15, Floyd Central 52-22, Jennings County 61-15 and Jeffersonville 42-21.
Noah Lykins (106), Joey Gordon (132), Cayden Rooks (138), Jake Schoenegge (152), Nick South (170) and Jacob Bolte (220) all went 5-0 for East. Kenton Wilson (113), Jacob Shaver (160) and Noah White (182) all went 4-1. Nate John (120), Kade Law (145) and Aaron Cepeda (195) all went 3-2.
Jennings started the tournament on Friday and beat New Albany 58-24 and lost to Floyd Central 48-22. On Saturday, the Panthers beat Bedford North Lawrence 58-24 and fell to Jeffersonville 56-15, Charleston 51-27 and East before beating Madison 78-6.
Sam Bennett (170) and Logan Askew (195) each went 6-1 for the Panthers. Cameron Woodard (182) went 5-2, and Travis Waltermeier (106), Dathan Malone (126) and Blake Mitchell (285) all went 4-3.
Bull Dogs take sixth
BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North went 0-5 in the Bloomington North Invitational. The Bull Dogs fell to Lawrence North 68-9, Bloomington South 70-9, Center Grove 72-9, Bloomington North 40-27 and Martinsville 48-28.
Bradley Gutierrez went 5-0 at 285 to lead the Bull Dogs. Nick Holt went 3-2 at 170, while Morgan Smith (113), Bryce Abner (138), Connor Essick (145), Yadiel Reyes (195) all went 2-3.

Trojans sweep Bull Frogs
Columbus North’s girls won seven events to Center Grove’s five, but the Trojans claimed a 103-83 victory. Center Grove won the boys meet 108-78.
Olivia Morlok won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 2.95 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:20.80, and Betsy King took the 50 freestyle (25.04) and 100 freestyle (54.11) to lead the Bull Frog girls. Adeline Rush captured the 100 backstroke (1:06.01), and North won the 200 freestyle (1:44.39) and 400 freestyle (3:48.86) relays.
For the boys, Sam Russell won the 200 individual medley (1:59.09) and the 100 breaststroke (59.55). The Bull Frogs also took the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.44).

Crusaders fall in final
DUGGER — Columbus Christian rallied from a 17-point deficit early in second half to take the lead late in Saturday’s Southern Roads Conference title game, but Cannelton hit a late 3-pointer to send it into overtime and pulled out a 66-63 win.
Conner Emily led the Crusaders (4-3) with 30 points. C.J. Reed added 20.
Columbus Christian won two games on Friday to advance to the championship, including a 62-53 win against Evansville Christian late Friday night. Reed led the Crusaders with 18 points.
Dragons slay Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Silver Creek ran out to a 54-25 halftime lead and never looked back in handing Jennings County an 85-49 loss.
Josh Pettit led the Panthers (0-3) with 11 points. Owen Miller and Trey Wilson each added nine.
Cadets handle Eagles
CLAYTON — Brown County remained winless with a 59-41 WIC loss at Cascade.
The Eagles fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the WIC.
Lancers down Mohawks
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh trailed 11-8 after one quarter before rallying for a 59-49 win against Waldron in the Mid-Hoosier Conference opener for both teams.
Coltan Henderson led the Lancers (2-2, 1-0) with 12 points. Jordan Myers scored 11, and Hunter Dean added 10.
Shiners stop Cougars
RISING SUN — South Decatur played Rising Sun even in the second half, but the Cougars couldn’t overcome a 34-12 halftime deficit in a 64-42 loss.
Lane Lauderbaugh led the Cougars (0-4) with 17 points.
