Time to give back

We all well know that December is a month in which it is more blessed to give than to receive, though that sometimes gets blurred within the commercialism of the season. We have unwrapped a few options for you to give back for the sake of others. Other ideas appear on Page B?.

Flexible time

Building goodwill: CANstruction seeks new and returning teams to build large, creative structures made entirely out of canned food in order to draw attention to local need and hunger — and provide canned food to address that need. All cans are donated at the end of the competition to local food pantries, including Love Chapel, Salvation Army, Community Center of Hope and Columbus East and Columbus North high schools. Location: FairOaks Mall. Time Commitment: Event kicks off this month, and runs thru March. Build Day is Feb. 23. Contact: Joy King, [email protected]

Flexible time

Bringing Christmas cheer: Columbus Fireman’s Cheer Fund provides a box of toys at Christmas time for approximately 1,200 children annually. Volunteers are needed to sort new and gently used toys, preparing, boxing up, distributing and transporting toys to families. Where: 1531 13th St, United Way Doug Otto Center. Contact: [email protected].
