East sweeps New Albany

NEW ALBANY — Columbus East’s boys and girls rolled to victories at New Albany Saturday. The Olympians won the boys meet 115-60 and the girls contest 116-69.

The East boys won 11 of the 12 events. Ryan Singer took the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 55.28 seconds) and 500 freestyle (5:14.55), Zach Statler captured the 200 individual medley (2:15.26) and 100 butterfly (59.38) and Chad Kelly won the 50 freestyle (24.22) and 100 freestyle (55.71).

DJ Rhodes took the diving competition (207.60), and Branson Young captured the 100 backstroke (1:06.84). The Olympians swept the 200 medley (1:53.10), 200 freestyle (1:39.41) and 400 freestyle (3:47.81) relays.

“Not as much competition as the past meets, but they swam right at or set new personal bests,” East boys coach Dave Fribley said. “We moved some guys around to see how they would swim in ‘off’ events. They responded very well.”

Jennifer Utterback won the 50 freestyle (25.98) and 100 backstroke (1:07.09), and Maggie Johnson took the 100 butterfly (1:04.35) and 500 freestyle (5:41.93) to lead the Olympian girls.

Elizabeth Proffitt won the 200 freestyle (2:08.72), Karissa Miller took the 100 freestyle (58.20), Marin Wieneke captured the 100 breaststroke (1:13.79). East swept the 200 medley (2:04.87), 200 freestyle (1:47.91) and 400 freestyle (4:01.27) relays.

North drops 5 matches

ST. LEON — Columbus North came close in its first match, but ended up going 0-5 in the East Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs fell to Rushville 36-35, Lawrenceburg 74-6, Batesville 54-18, Cambridge City Lincoln 36-28 and East Central 68-3.

Morgan Smith (113 pounds) went 5-0 to lead North.

Panthers take 10th

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County finished 10th in the Jeffersonville Invitational. The host Red Devils won the title.

Cameron Woodard led the Panthers with a third-place finish at 182. Teagan Johnson (120) and Sam Bennett (170) each took fourth, and Blake Skinner (132) was sixth.

Panthers down Owls

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County jumped out to a 17-8 lead after one quarter and went on to post its first Hoosier Hills Conference win of the season, a 65-46 triumph against Seymour.

Josh Pettit led the Panthers (2-4, 1-1) with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Martin added 17 points and five assists, and Weston Miller had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Monrovia tops Lancers

MONROVIA — Edinburgh was within five points at halftime, but unbeaten Monrovia pulled away for a 52-26 victory.

Darius Bennett led the Lancers (3-5) with seven points.

Raiders edge Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur rallied from a 46-24 deficit midway through the third quarter to make it close, but South Ripley held on for a 67-64 victory.

Hunter Johnson led the Cougars (2-7) with 20 points. Lane Lauderbaugh added 16.
