Lorna Lee “Sissy” Gilliam Bogard, 68, of Columbus entered Eternal Life at 6:15 a.m., Thursday December 13th at her residence following an 18 month battle with cancer. Lorna, the daughter of Byron and Margaret Gilliam, was born on November 21, 1950 in Washington, DC.

Lorna attended St Bartholomew School, graduated from Columbus High School in 1968 and Ivy Tech in 1978. She married Jerry Bogard in 1970. Lorna worked at Vernco/Ventra for 20 years, Developmental Services and First Steps before retiring in 2013.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. Lorna touched many lives with her kindness and was a blessing to many. She had a special bond with her sister Peggy and helped raise her niece, Angela Gilley and nephews, Shawn and Danny Gilley. She was quick to help those in need expecting nothing in return. Lorna attended Community Church of Columbus.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Jack “Andy”) Piercefield; brothers, Garvin (Kathy) Gilliam, Byron “Gene” (Diane) Gilliam, John “Quincy” Gilliam; granddaughters, Whitney (Jason) Austin, Allison Piercefield; great-grandchildren Christian Austin, Jax Pollert; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Sister, Margaret “Peggy” Gilley, and the love of her life, Jerry Bogard.

A celebration of life will be held at Community Church of Columbus 3850 N Marr Rd, Columbus, IN on Sunday, December 30th from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
