Donner swimmers score in winter invitational

All eight swimmers who competed for Donner Swim Club in the Indiana Swim Club Winter Invitational earlier this month at Indiana University scored points in their respective age groups.

Abby Proffitt was the top scorer for Donner with 78 points in the girls 10-and-under age group. She placed fourth in the 200 freestyle, sixth in the 100 freestyle, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 100 backstroke, 10th in the 50 backstroke and 12th in the 50 freestyle.

Ainsley Sherlock scored 49 points in the girls 11-12 age group. She finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 200 indivdual medley and 50 breaststroke, ninth in the 500 freestyle and 16th in the 50 butterfly.

Isaac Proffitt scored 38 points, placing eighth in the boys 11-12 50 backstroke, ninth in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, 13th in the 100 freestyle and 14th in the 50 freestyle. Brock Smith scored 34 points, finishing sixth in the 11-12 boys 100 butterfly, 10th in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, 12th in the 50 breaststroke, and 15th in the 50 freestyle.

Nitya Garg placed fourth in the 10-and-under girls 100 butterfly, 12th in the 200 freestyle and 16th in the 50 breaststroke. Mridula Muthukumaran took ninth in the 10-and-under girls 50 butterfly, 11th in the 200 IM, 13th in the 100 freestyle and 15th in the 50 backstroke.

Alison Clauss finished 10th in the 11-12 girls 100 butterfly, 13th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 200 freestyle. Josie Havanaar was seventh in the 13-14 girls 200 breaststroke.

A week earlier, Donner competed in the Seymour Winter Invitational at Seymour High School. For Donner’s 8-and-unders, Levi Bense placed second in the boys 25 breaststroke; third in the 50 backstroke, 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke; fourth in the 25 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Rajvi Sapkal finished fourth in the girls 25 breaststroke, fifth in the 25 freestyle and eighth in the 50 backstroke. Aashka Shah took eighth in the girls 25 backstroke and ninth in the 25 freestyle.

In the 9-10 age group, Garg placed seventh in the girls 200 IM, and eighth in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. Morgan Hollinger was seventh in the 50 backstroke.

Aarush Mahato finished fourth in the boys 50 butterfly, fifth in the 50 freestyle, seventh in the 50 backstroke and eighth in the 50 breaststroke. Muthukumaran took third in the girls 100 backstroke; fourth in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle; sixth in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 50 breaststroke.

Abby Proffitt placed fourth in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 50 freestyle; fifth in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke and sixth in the 50 backstroke. Michael Reed was sixth in the 100 freestyle.

In the 11-12 age group, Clauss finished second in the girls 100 backstroke; fifth in the 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 200 IM and seventh in the 100 freestyle. Conner Hoffman took eighth in the boys 50 breaststroke.

Brock Smith was fifth in the boys 100 butterfly, 6th in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 50 butterfly and eighth in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle.

Sherlock finished second in the girls 100 breaststroke, 200 IM and 50 breaststroke; third in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, fourth in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, fifth in the 50 butterfly, sixth in the 50 backstroke and seventh in the 50 freestyle. Emma Swenson took sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

Donner’s top-eight finisher in the 13-14 age group was Havenaar, who placed sixth in the 200 backstroke.

Rockpile, MOR stay perfect

The Rockpile and Monsters of Rock each ran their records to 4-0 with victories last week.

Monsters of Rock beat Toyota Tsunamis 7-2 behind two goals each from Greg Thomas and Rob Jones and one apiece from Zach Henderson, Tyler Rash and Kyle Roshak. Greg McNealy and Jimmy Robertson scored for Tsunamis.

The Rockpile beat Yoopers by forfeit.

CCA Kutters edged Hansons 2-1 on a pair of goals from Scott Herron. Kyle Thocher scored for Hansons.

Tom Kareus scored three goals, and Ricky Hooten added one to lead Our Name Is Earl to a 4-2 win against Slappin’ Balls. Darien Castetter and Eric Wernke scored for Slappin’ Balls.

A week earlier, The Rockpile beat Our Name Is Earl 4-2. Matt Street scored two goals for Rockpile, while Tyler Houchin and Stephanie Pigneri each added one. Nick Lewis and Ryan Ingalls scored for Earl.

Monsters of Rock downed Yoopers 4-1 behind two goals from Henderson and one each from Jones and Rash. Kyle Shafer scored the Yoopers goal.

Herron scored three goals to lead CCA Kutters to a 6-2 win against Toyota Tsunamis. Jacob Hollingsworth added two goals, and Tim Walton had one for Kutters. Dalton McNealy and Greg McNealy scored for Tsunamis.

Hansons blanked Slappin’ Balls 5-0. Rahul Bhardwaj netted two goals for Hansons, while Keith Henry, John Lane and Dave VanValkenburg all added one.

BASKETball

Central wins four times

The Central seventh-grade boys won four games recently to improve to 9-2 on the season.

The Chargers beat John Wooden Middle School 44-21 and Bedford 46-39 to win the Bloomington Tri-North Invitational title. Connor Hensley scored 19 points, and Phillip McKinley added 10 against Wooden. Hensley poured in 25 against Bedford.

Central beat Sunman-Dearborn 43-24 behind 20 points from Hensley and 11 from McKinley. A day later, the Chargers beat St. Peter’s 46-25, with Hensley scoring 14 and McKinley 12.

Jennings 8th wins tourney

The Jennings County eighth-grade boys White team beat Brownstown Central 38-16 and Silver Creek 49-45 to win the Silver Creek Tournament.

Keegan Manowitz and Jacob Scruggs each scored 10 points against Brownstown. Manowitz had 31 and Lane Zohrlaut 10 against Silver Creek.

The Panthers (12-1) then took their first loss of the season, a 41-38 setback against Shawswick. Manowitz led Jennings with 15 points, and Owen Law added 12.

The Jennings seventh-grade boys White team beat Brownstown 34-29 and fell to Silver Creek 49-33 in the Silver Creek tourney. Carter Kent scored 15 against Brownstown and 17 against Silver Creek, and Cole Sigler added 11 against Silver Creek.

The Panthers (11-1) came back to beat Shawswick 44-33. Kent scored 20 points, and Sigler added 15.

The Jennings seventh-grade Blue team beat Edinburgh 42-28. Dylan Harrison led the Panthers (5-4) with 15 points.

The Jennings eighth-grade Blue squad fell to Edinburgh 52-43. Skyler Lewis led the Panthers (4-5) with 17 points.
