East 9th in state duals

FORT WAYNE — Columbus East tied for ninth place in the Class 3A division of Saturday’s Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association State Duals at Fort Wayne Coliseum.

The Olympians, ranked No. 2 in the IndianaMat.com Power Poll, fell to No. 11 Warren Central 45-20 and No. 5 Roncalli 36-29 in their pool matches. East then beat No. 7 Portage 42-30 in a matchup of teams that finished third in their respective pools.

Cayden Rooks (138 pounds), Jake Schoenegge (160/152), Nick South (170), Noah White (195) and Jacob Bolte (220) all went 3-0 on the day for the Olympians. Kade Law (145) and Sam Morrill (160) each went 2-1.

Panthers finish second

Jennings County’s top varsity squad went 3-1 to finish second at the New Palestine Invitational. The Panthers beat Danville 57-19, lost to Terre Haute South 55-18 and beat New Palestine 37-36 and Brebeuf Jesuit 82-0.

Travis Waltermire (106), Teagan Johnson (120) and Logan Askew (195) all went 4-0 for Jennings. Dathan Malone (126) and Joey Moran (138) went 3-1.

The Panthers’ No. 2 varsity went 4-1 at the Providence Invitational. Jennings beat North Bullitt (Kentucky) 42-30, lost to Southwestern (Hanover) 53-18 and beat Providence 42-24, New Washington 36-24, New Albany 42-18.

Eagles go 2-3

NASHVILLE — Brown County went 2-3 in its own invitational. The Eagles beat Northview 48-34; lost to Seymour 48-22, Jasper 48-24 and Whiteland 60-24 before beating North Putnam 48-36.

David Tucker (126) and Bryce Denton (132) each went 5-0 for Brown County. Brandon Leslie (113) went 4-1.

SWIMMING

North diver takes second

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North’s Ella Anderson finished second with 322.85 points to lead local divers in the Bloomington North Diving Invitational.

Also for the North girls, Naomy Argueta Ventura took seventh with 272.20 points, and Grace Lemley was ninth with 224.15.

Columbus East’s DJ Rhodes finished third in the boys competition with 339.70 points. North’s Kyan Jiles took fifth with 292.55, Cole Wheeler was sixth with 285.45 and DeShawn Austin finished eighth with 267.00.

Lancers down Senators

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh built a 27-17 halftime lead and held on for a 54-47 win against West Washington.

Jordan Myers led the Lancers (5-7) with 14 points. Bryce Burton added 13.

Cougars rout Hornets

MEDORA — Lane Lauderbaugh poured in 30 points to lead South Decatur to a 70-41 win at Medora.

Hunter Johnson added 10 points for the Cougars (4-9), who led 35-19 at halftime.
