A donation shortfall over the winter holidays has resulted in the American Red Cross issuing and emergency call for blood and platelet donors.
The agency collected 27,000 fewer blood and platelet donations during the holidays than what was needed for a sufficient blood supply. Right now, the Red Cross has less than a three-day supply of blood of most blood types on hand, said Rodney Wilson, Red Cross communications manager.
