“We were really concerned about getting the meet in because of the weather,” East coach Nancy Kirshman said. “If we didn’t go, it would have been another whole week until Merrillville (Invitational on Saturday). I was glad that Bloomington made the trip over here, but I understand with Roncalli being on the edge of the rain, ice and snow, unfortunately.”

Lane placed first on the bars (8.7) and beam (9.2). She finished second on the vault (9.15) and third on the floor (9.35).

Taylor Gaskill finished first on the floor (9.5) and vault (9.3) for the Olympians. She finished second on the bars (8.65) and third on the beam (8.35) to take second in the all-around (35.8).

Elise LaSell finished third on the bars (8.3) and fourth on the vault (8.6) and placed third in the all-around (33.3). Reagan Mount took second on the beam (8.45), fourth on the bars (8.6) and fifth in the all-around (33.15).

“Today, it was a lot better for us,” Lane said. “I think we were more relaxed and not as nervous. That will only help us towards the end of the year when we’re starting to go to sectional.”

Kirshman was pleased with the team’s effort and performance. East’s team score was more than five points higher than in its most recent meet Jan. 7 at Columbus North.

“We did a lot better and rallied from our last meet,” Kirshman said. “We had some good things happen today, and we also had mistakes that normally don’t happen. Overall, I say it was a really nice job by our team. We had many people show up in events that they haven’t in the past. We’re making progress, and that’s a good thing.”
