Red Devils sweep East
JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East dropped a pair of close meets Saturday at Jeffersonville. The Red Devils took the boys competition 96-87 and the girls meet 100-82.
Ryan Singer led the Olympian boys with wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 9.57 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.70). DJ Rhodes took the diving competition (213.75), and Zach Statler captured the 100 butterfly (59.34).
“We’ve had some meets that they really wanted to go after this year,” East boys coach Dave Fribley said. “They swam at Seymour, but they really didn’t go after it. I had a little talk with them (Friday), and they really went after it and really swam well, and they tried to beat these kids from Jeff that were better. As exhausted as they were after (Friday) night’s practice, and to still come back and go after it like that, they deserve to be commended.”
Individual winners for the Olympian girls were Cloie McDonald in diving (154.20), Maggie Johnson in the 500 freestyle (5:38.14), Karissa Miller in the 100 backstroke (1:07.12) and Jennifer Utterback in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.62. East also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.56).
