Scholarships available for criminal justice students
The Indiana Sheriff’s Association will be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students statewide who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice, Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman said.
About 40 scholarships each worth $750 will awarded.
The Indiana Sheriff’s Association Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of receiving, investing and dispensing of funds to provide college scholarships to qualified students who are committed to pursuing an education and career in the law enforcement field.
To qualify, the applicant must:
Be an Indiana resident
Be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association
Attend an Indiana college or university
Major in a law enforcement field
Enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more)
Applications needed to apply for the scholarships are available from high school counselors or the sheriff’s department, and can also be downloaded from the Indiana Sheriff’s Association website: indianasheriffs.org.
Applications must be completed and received by the Indiana Sheriff’s Association on or before April 1.
Vet to Vet events planned to support veterans
North Vernon Vet to Vet, a new peer support program for military veterans, is having a meeting at 7 p.m. Friday in Elsner Hall at the North Vernon Education and Training Center, 1200 W. O & M Ave.
Its next monthly breakfast is scheduled for 7 to 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Education and Training Center. The breakfasts are the second Saturday of each month.
