Club Olympia competes
Club Olympia’s 10-and-under swimmers competed in last weekend’s Munster Swim Club 10-and-Under Spectacular, a meet designed to be fun and to encourage swimmers aged ten and under by awarding medals, ribbons and points through 20th place and high point trophies through third place.
Nine teams — five from Indiana and four from Illinois — competed. With only 17 swimmers, and three of those swimming unattached, Club Olympia placed sixth overall. If the three unattached swimmers had competed for Club Olympia, the team would have been third, behind Duneland out of Chesterton (with 40 swimmers in the meet) and host Munster Swim Club (with 28 swimmers).
Leading the way for Club Olympia was Joshua Pendleton, who placed first in high-point scoring for 8-year-old boys with 113 points. Pendleton won the 25- and 50-yard freestyle events and the 25 backstroke and finished second in the 25 butterfly and third in the 25 breaststroke, all in personal-best times.
Tony Machavariani was next with 110 points in the 6-year old-boys competition to earn the second-place high point trophy. Machavariani won the 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke and took second in the 25 butterfly and 50 freestyle and third in the 25 breaststroke.

Competing unattached, Connelly Furnish finished with 100 points in the 9-year-old events to earn the second-place high point award. Furnish swam best times in four of her five races, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke, second in the 50 freestyle and 100 individual medley, third in the 50 backstroke and ninth in the 50 butterfly.
Also swimming unattached in the 9-year-old events was Grier Lane, who finished with 97 points to tie for the third-place high point trophy.
