3 arrested on theft charges

Columbus police officers arrested three people after responding to a reported theft at a local store.

At about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Columbus Police Department officers stopped a vehicle near Beech Tree Drive and Park Lane on Columbus’ north side. The occupants of the vehicle were suspected of stealing clothing valued at several hundreds of dollars from Rural King, located at 2985 N. National Road in Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, CPD public relations officer.

Officers determined that the vehicle’s driver, Ashley Smoot, 32, of Greenwood, had a Johnson County warrant for her arrest and she was taken into custody, Harris said.

Officers observed that Smoot’s passengers, Troy Logan and James C. Isaac, both 42 and both of Indianapolis, were wearing new clothing and boots with the store tags still affixed. The officers determined that Logan had a valid Indiana parole warrant for his arrest. Both Logan and Isaac were arrested, Harris said.
